横浜教区ステラマリス概要 /STELLA MARIS Yokohama Overview
四方を海に囲まれた日本に住む私たちは、ほとんどが海路で輸入される食糧や生活用品に頼って暮らしています。私たちの生活は、そのような輸入品を運ぶ「船員」たちの働きに支えられているのです。
Japan depends on imported food and commodity because it is surrounded by sea. So we are very much supported by seafarers who work on ships that are delivering our imported goods.
その「船員」たちの多くは、発展途上国の出身で、経済競争の中で安価な賃金、限られた場所での過酷な労働、家族と離れた孤独な船上生活を強いられています。彼らにとって、海と陸との接点「みなと」に寄港した際のわずかな休憩時間は、数少ない憩いのひとときなのです。
Most of the seafarers are from developing countries and forced into challenging working conditions; receiving low labor wages due to harsh economic conditions back home, having limited and unsecured space on the ships and being away from their families. Arriving in our ports is their precious moment of relief to be on land and meet some people.
STELLA MARIS はそんな船員たちを訪問し、「みなと」での憩いのひとときを応援するカトリック教会の組織です。STELLA MARIS の役割は宗教や国籍を問わず、「のどが渇いているときに一杯の水を差し出す（マタイ25・31-40参照）」ことです。イエス自身も、生まれた時は難民でした（マタイ2・13-15参照）。イエスの公生活も移動者としてのものでした（マタイ8・18-22参照）。教会は「旅する教会」(教会憲章48項c)とも言われています。STELLA MARIS のメンバーは、このイエスの移動者の視点にならって、「船員」たちと出会う恵みを共に神様に感謝しています。一緒に話したり、「みなと」に近い教会やスーパーなどを紹介したりすることも助けになります。また、フィリピンなどアジア出身の船員にはカトリック信徒も数多く、祈りやミサの案内も喜ばれています。依頼を受けて、船上ミサが捧げられることもあります。STELLA MARIS 横浜では、皆様のご理解、ご支援を頂くために、小教区での説明会や港見学などを実施し、バザーなどにも積極的に参加しています。また、ボランティアメンバーの募集も随時行っています。ご興味のある方は、お気軽にお問い合わせ頂ければ幸いです。例年11月ごろには、日ノ出町駅近くの 横浜教区ステラマリス 船員センターにおいて、クリスマスプレゼントのラッピングと仕分けを行います。STELLA MARIS 横浜 メンバー一同、心より皆様のご参加をお待ちしております。
STELLA MARIS provides Catholic pastoral care for seafarers, encouraging them and providing support for their relaxation. No matter their nationalities and religious backgrounds, as the bible says “For I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.” Jesus himself was a refugee when he was born (Mathew 2: 13-15). Jesus was a migrant (cf Mathew 8: 18-22). Church is the pilgrim Church (Lumen Gentium 48c). In following Jesus’s path, STELLA MARIS members thank the Lord to have a chance to meet the seafarers, talk to them, introduce them to nearest churches and take them to the supermarkets, etc.. Since most of the seafarers from the Philippines or other Asian countries are Catholics, they are happy to go to church for the Holly Mass or prayers. Sometimes a Holly Mass will be celebrated with them on board when requested.
Your understanding and generous donations help STELLA MARIS. At the moment we have explanatory meetings in various parishes, take part in a charity bazaar, and give believers opportunities to explore the ports to make them understand what we are doing. We also need you to be our volunteers. Those who are interested in our activities, please contact us. Moreover, every November we need your help to wrap the Christmas gifts for seafarers at STELLA MARIS YOKOHAMA Seafares Center in Hinode-cho, Yokohama-city, Japan. Your understanding and support can make our activity ongoing and we are very happy to see your participation in STELLA MARIS.

STELLA MARIS は、ローマ教皇を最高責任者とする教皇庁のDICASTERY FOR PROMOTING INTEGRAL HUMAN DEVELOPMENT（統合的人間開発促進のための部署）の下に位置づけられており、地域別、国別、教区別に組織され、世界各国を移動する船員たちの福利、厚生、医療、司牧的なケア、家族の支援などを目的としています。
What is STELLA MARIS :
STELLA MARIS is a professional association of Cathoric Church under the Pontifical DICASTERY FOR PROMOTING INTEGRAL HUMAN DEVELOPMENT. It is structured by regions, nations and dioceses to serve seafarers who cross the sea all over the world by protecting their rights, welfare, medication, pastoral care, and supporting their families.
